I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who contributed to the success of my latest solo exhibition Red is the Colour. The persons involved are numerous and I feel obliged towards their dedication and enthusiasm in making this event so special. Below are links to a couple of reviews which portray perfectly the journey which took me here:
https://timesofmalta.com/articles/view/red-is-the-colour.753742 https://timesofmalta.com/articles/view/a-dramatic-view-of-gozitan-landscapes.756256 Beginning a new collection is not starting over but just a continuation of a journey. Three days to go.
It has been a while since my friend and passionate art collector Joe Spiteri invited me to come up with a collection of works intended to inaugurate the exhibition area at Ta' Mena Experience, a place which I strongly recommend for a visit to all lovers of fine wine, local culinary experiences and fine arts. Red is the Colour is the title of my upcoming exhibition. Needless to say, red is the dominant colour that breathes beneath layers upon layers of paint that build up as finished compositions inspired by local Gozitan landscapes. Red is the colour of passion and rage; at times it can be sensual while in other instances it might appear dramatic. Red is a challenging colour when it comes to landscape interpretation; my intention was to adopt an expressionist idiom in order to apply reds in a confident and unconditional way. And since I love challenges I delved into new possibilities that materialised into my latest collection consisting of 13 paintings on canvas. You are all welcome to visit!
Venue: Ta' Mena Experience, Triq l-Industrija (industrial area), Xewkija. Dates: all weekdays and Saturdays during the month of December 2019. Opening hours: 10 am till 8 pm. Official opening: Sunday 1st December at 10.30 am The following is a link to an online interview which was originally published some years ago and in which I was asked to express my views about my work and art in general:
http://pokemongomaltamap.com/meeting-christopher-saliba/ Confronting an empty canvas is a decisive moment in the process of making a painting. Adrenaline starts to flow and a myriad of possibilities are taken into consideration before the actual build-up gains momentum.
